BACKGROUNDER
OUR
MISSION
|
Lucky Mutts is a non profit organization
with the foremost goal of being a premier canine advocacy group
in the Austin and surrounding areas. The group realizes that
rescuing single dogs will never make an impact on the plight
of the species as a whole. To reduce the number of abandoned
and unwanted animals, Lucky Mutts strives to educate the public
about responsible dog ownership.
This goal is approached by several avenues:
- Public
education through specialized programs geared toward
different demographics
- Active
participation in legislation concerning our canine companions
- Producing
prime examples of how responsible dog ownership creates
well adjusted animals that are an asset to the
community
- We
partner with organizations to provide service, therapy,
search
and rescue, and police dogs
- We
adopt dogs that are excellent examples of our program
to the general
public

OUR
VISION : BEYOND RESCUE
|
| Millions
of animals die in shelters across the country every year
because there are too many of them. We want to reduce that
number to zero.
Each
lucky mutt is a learning opportunity, not a number.
- We
make a commitment to all of the lucky mutts in our
program until they find a great home.
- Dogs
are not euthanized because they are "hard to
adopt".
- Dogs
are never returned to the shelter.
How
we do this:
- We work
with local trainers and behaviorists with to help
make each one of our lucky mutts a well behaved,
happy and healthy friend for life.
- We
make a commitment to find a good home for each dog
that finds it's way to us.
- We
take the time to work with each animal to learn their
quirks, personality and training needs.
- We
do not do same day adoptions and each animal gets
to stay in a foster home until we feel they are ready
for adoption.

Where
we find our dogs:
|
Lucky
mutts works with the rescue coordinators of Town Lake
Animal Center and other local shelters to rescue adoptable
lucky mutts that would have otherwise been euthanized.
Some lucky mutts come to us with injuries from abuse
or neglect, others are puppies who need basic vet care
and time to socialize before finding a home. |
|
We
have found that all dogs need people and our crew of abandoned
mixed breeds make fine, loyal, devoted companions.
See our success page for some
stories.
