Joaquin

Black is Beautiful

This beautiful black dog showed up at my doorstep (literally) with a chain and a padlock around his neck. He clearly had broken the chains that bound him like a criminal and after I had to take him to a locksmith to remove the chain and padlock, there was no doubt in my mind that this friend wasn't going back “home.”

He is guessed to be 1-2 years old and has been neutered and vaccinated, gets along with other dogs (I have five of my own). He has been with me now for about a month, and I feel he would prefer a smaller household. Please adopt this special guy and give him the loving home he deserves. Charlie

Great spirit looking for love!

Charlie is a neutered male, tan and white, 70 lb. Border Collie/German Wirehaired Pointer mix and is approximately 4-5 years old. I found Charlie the week before Thanksgiving ’08 running down the middle of the road. He was wearing a faded collar with no tags or i.d.. You could see every rib in his body and his hip bones jutted out. He was in bad shape. The Animal Control Officer came out and scanned Charlie for a microchip, but to no avail. He was then taken the San Marcos Animal Shelter to see if anyone came looking for him. Almost 3 weeks went by with nobody coming to claim him (I also posted him on Craig’s list lost pets). I could not get his sweet beautiful brown eyes out of my mind and I knew that I had to get him out of the shelter. With the help of a nice lady who runs an animal rescue group, we were able to get Charlie out of the shelter so that I could take him home as a foster dog and give him the second chance at a life that he deserves. When he came out of the shelter in early Dec., He weighed 47 lbs., was very scared and completely covered in fleas. He had ear mites, and his hair was scratchy and horrible. To put it nicely, he was a mess! He also tested low positive for heartworms – no surprise! In the 8 weeks that he has been with our family he has thrived! He now weighs 70 lbs., had no fleas or mites and all of his blood work is back normal. He has been microchipped and is being treated for heartworms with Heartguard. The vet hopes that he will be heartworm free in 6 months and if not he will need to have the injectable heartworm treatment to completely kill off any remaining parasites. He has a great spirit and loves to play outside with my 2 year old German Shepherd. He is housebroken and crate trained, knows the sit command and loves to play ball with my kids. Although he seems perfectly healthy and energetic, his activity level will need to be closely monitored until he is completely heartworm free. We are also working with him on further obedience training and this will need to be continued in his new home as he has some anxiety issues with other dogs at times. I don’t know his history since I found him, but it is obvious he did not have a great life up until now. With a bit of work and continued socialization he will make a great pet! He just really needs someone who can give him love, attention and a bit of time to work with him. I will be very sad to see him go, but because I have 2 other dogs, 2 cats and 2 young children, I feel that I do not have the time to devote to Charlie that he really deserves. Charlie is ready to find his “Forever Home”. Because of his background, he will be best going to a person who is experienced with dogs, and probably to a home with no other dogs at this time. With some work and behavior modification, another dog could probably be brought into his life down the road. In lieu of an adoption fee, I would ask that you purchase some training sessions with a wonderful animal behaviorist in the area that I have worked with and who will come to your home to work with Charlie – I truly believe he will be worth it all! He has been through so much and it will be great to see him have a happy ending! Thank you for your interest in Charlie and I look forward to hearing from you! Please contact me at tara7tilton@yahoo.com.

Ford

Ready for a Home of his Own!

Ford is a 1 ½ yr old male brindle boxer-mix. He was boarded at a vet clinic for about 7 months and became a little frustrated with that situation and so would like to find himself a permanent home. So far he has been very insecure around other dogs. His foster family is working with him to help regain his confidence so he can be placed in a home with other dogs. He has met a few older children and LOVES them. Because of his affectionate nature, children seem to tickle his boxer side, causing him to wiggle and wag as if he were full-blooded. He has not yet been tested with cats. Although he has so much fun just running around the yard, he would prefer to be close to an actual person - he adores humans. Because he lived at the vet for so long, he has an absolute clean bill of health. Plus, he's neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and crate trained. Although Ford knows how to walk well on a slip-lead, he definitely needs training. Anyone interested in adopting Ford will receive FREE obedience training. His training classes will be paid for out of pocket by the president of ABR. Overall, Ford is an AWESOME dog that will give back ten-fold what a family gives to him.

Darcee

Darcee is a gorgeous 3-4 month old mixy puppy. She was reacued by a wonderful ABR volunteer that drove out to the country and saved them from iniment death. Darcee and her sister were abandoned out in the country when their owners moved. The other neighbors were unable to help them or even afford to feed them. When the ABR volunteer arrived she found 2 scared, starving little girls. They were quickly swooped up and taken to the vet where they were found to be underweight, but otherwise healthy. These girls have really started to come out of their shell. Darcee is more timid than her sister and would likley do best with a woman in her new home since she's so scared of men. She's been started on heartworm prevention and will be spayed soon. Both girls loves to play with other dogs, do well with cats as well as children. Any family would be lucky to have this little girl as a companion.

For more information or to adopt Darcee please visit www.austinboxerrescue.com or email Jen at info@austinboxerrescue.com.

Bert

The Amazing Bert!

Hey, my name is Bert. I'm a one year old, healthy, playful, house trained, 40 pound boxer/pit terrier mix. I found myself in a shelter at about six months old, but after a few months there I wasn't doing too well and became very shy. A nice lady with a dog, fostered me for three months. At first I wouldn't even come out of my room, but over time she taught me to be more self confident and I am crate trained. I have been in foster with another lady for the last three months and have completed Lee's Tricks and Triumphs course twice. It is time for me to share my joy, kisses and nibbles in a home I can really call my own. Sometimes I'm nervous around new people and things at first, but have made excellent progress and everyone is really proud of me. I love playing with dogs and was fine with the limited experience I have had with cats. I may be a little too playful to be with small children right now. I love treats, squeaky toys, walks, jogs, riding in the car and training. I already know wait, leave it, sit, down, roll over and more, but I think agility might be my calling. Although I already know a lot, I am eager to learn more in return for your love. You will love me if you meet me. I think it's my under-bite. P.S. I come neutered, micro-chipped and with toys. You would also get a $250 credit with Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior. What a deal! Please contact us at lmccb@lmccb.com for more information and to apply for adoption.

Wally The Wonder Dog

Wanna play? Wanna snuggle? Wally is happy to oblige!

Wally is a foundling pit bull mix who’s ready to find his forever home! We think he’s probably about a year old, he weighs about 60 lbs., and he’s neutered and up to date on his shots. He is a playful, gentle, goofy dog—a big sweetheart who is always happy (you can tell because he’s always smiling!). And he’s house-trained and crate-trained—who could ask for more?! He can be a little shy with new people, but he warms up quickly and hasn’t met anyone he doesn’t like! He loves other dogs and wants to play with everyone, but he can be a little pushy in his desire to start a game. He is not aggressive in any way, shape or form—he just has trouble taking no for an answer when his question is “Wanna play?” He is fascinated with our cats, but he leaves them alone when told—by us, or by the cats with a quick paw to the nose! We haven’t had the opportunity to introduce him to any children, but I think he would be wonderful with older kids. He would probably be wonderful with little kids too, but he might knock them over without meaning to (did I mention he was goofy?). Wally is a particularly wonderful dog who needs a very special person or family to call his own, so we’re requiring an application and references to make sure he finds the right fit. We’re also asking for a $75 adoption fee, which we’d be happy to apply to a qualified training program of your choosing. Wally can “sit” when he’s concentrating, but he would definitely benefit from obedience training with someone strong enough to handle him while he’s learning. He’s extremely eager to please, and I think he’ll be a very quick study. Are you in love yet? Need a few funny stories to be sure? We have plenty—e-mail us at wallythewonderdog@earthlink.net and we’ll tell you everything you need to know to become Wally’s new best friend!

Scruffy and Muffy

We are TWO Awesome Dogs!

Scruffy and Muffy We think our names are Scruffy & Muffy! We are Lab/Golden Retrievers. We don't know our names because our owners never spoke to us. We lived on 5' chains in a fenced yard for over 4 long years along with 2 Blue Heelers which are still there. We could not play with each other but could see each other from all corners of the fenced yard. The highlight of our day was when our master came out with a bag of food & threw it on the ground then went back inside. Why didn't he ever speak or even just pet us once? We did get fresh water every weekend. Our masters never gave us any shots, never went for a walk or even played in the fenced yard, we only knew our 5' chained area. We are finally free, thanks to the Humane Society, to run & play with each other for the first time ever. We are very loving, good natured & very smart! The Humane Society has had us spayed but found out we have heart worms which we will be treated for soon. Our foster mother is training us to sit, come, potty train, etc. We would love to see what being a man's best friend is like and live in a home as a family. Thanks for your help. Scruffy & Muffy

Chester

This bundle of energy wants to play with YOU!

Chester needs a home! He is a pit bull mix, but don't let that scare you. He is as sweet and as lovable as can be! He is currently residing at Anderson Mill Animal Clinic, as his "rescue" mom has another rescue dog at home being treated for heartworms. Chester is a bundle of energy and loves to play. Chester is heartworm negative, neutered and has had his shots. He is about 9 months old, and is pretty small (he is not expected to get very large due to malnourishment and neglect). He has put on weight thanks to Anderson Mill's expert care. He would love to have someone work with him on staying "off" folks (he likes to jump up because he loves everyone) and some basic puppy skills. Please contact Renee or Tabitha at Anderson Mill A.C. at 258-4163 (they are located ~Anderson Mill Lane and Hwy 183) if you are interested.

Rip is a neutered 10-12 mos. old pup, UTD on vaccinations, wormed, HW Neg. & on monthly Revolution.

Rip was rescued on a highway after suffering injuries from a Pit Bull attack. He is kenneled with our vet & has become quite a ‘greeter’ (Wal-Mart is missing out!). He is friendly, socialized & is searching for someone to call his own.

Lab Girls

Wonderful Girls!

These sweet girls are looking for a new home. They are current on shots, spayed and have been on Heartguard since they were puppies. They know sit, stay, come, and stop barking. They are not house-trained (they have been outside dogs) but could easily learn. They are good with kids, other dogs and cats. They like to ride in the car and do well on a leash. Please give these girls a second chance. They would love to stay together if you have room in your heart for both of them!

Minnie

Snugglebug!

Meet Minnie! Minnie is a darling little dog who is smart, well behaved, house broken and crate trained. She knows tricks like sit, stand, roll over, beg and lay down. She walks well on a leash, and although she can still be playful, she loves to snuggle next to you on the couch as well. Minnie is very loyal and protective and wants to be your one and only. She is not comfortable around children and is selective about her doggy friends. She is looking for a home with no small children or other dogs. She sees them as "competition" and can be aggressive towards them. She has gotten along with smaller, male dogs in the past, but it's very hit or miss. She would be most successful in the home of a single person, or a couple without kids, or possibly an older person or couple looking for companionship. She would be very loyal and loving to you and is eager to please. If you can provide Minnie with a loving home where she can be the center of your life, please give her a chance. She won't disappoint you! Minnie is spayed and current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention.Contact Valerie at 512-986-5555 or austexval@yahoo.com

Jake

Hi ya'll! My name is Jake and I'm 6 yr old ACD mix. I was dumped at a vet and a local rescue picked me up. There I found a family to adopt me, but there are little ones around now that I try to herd, so I need to be rehomed. I am neutered, crate trained, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and even got my thyroid tested, which came back all right. I have been through Basic Obedience at the Lee Manix Center for Caninie Behavior and can now sit, stay, lie down, come, shake, and even crawl! I have even started CGC training, and had hours of behavior modification but can't help but herd small children and small dogs (I'm ok with cats)! I like to go on long walks but I'm OK with lying around all day also. Please give me a good home without small children where I can thrive, I'm such a good dog! Lodger

Give this Good Natured Guy some LOVE!

Hi, my name is Lodger. I love to run and play, but I also enjoy cuddling and lying in the sun, especially if I have something coated in peanut butter to chew on! I got a rough start in life. My foster mom and dad found me frightened out of my wits, running through the park after some cruel person had shot me with a taser and pepper sprayed me. I never gave up on humans though, and I was happy to let them take me to the vet, where one of the taser barbs had to be surgically removed. I have come a long way since then. I am now neutered and current on all my vaccinations, and I have tested heartworm negative and started on heartworm prevention. I am crate trained, housebroken, and doing really well with walking on a leash as long as I am wearing my Halti. I know sit, down, and come, and I do well with nondominant dogs, especially females. I love kids, and do well with mellow cats that are not aggressive towards dogs. I come with my own crate, Halti, and two private lessons with Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior. I am an adorable, trusting, goodnatured guy looking for a family of my own...won't you give me a chance?

Mr. Apollo Creed

A Sweetheart of a Dog!

Mr. Apollo was rescued as a puppy. He was mistreated and malnourished in his first home so when he came to me, I gave him all my love and attention. Even though he had a rough start, he didn’t let it affect his temperament toward people. Apollo has a big personality. He LOVES swimming, playing, going on walks and just lazing around the house. He is a 7 - 8 year old mix...possibly dane / boxer mix or bull terrier. He weighs @ 70lbs. He tends to be pretty territorial in his home so I am looking for a new home where he will be an only child. I will be leaving the country for a 2 year period so will not be able to take him with me. I am hoping to find him a new home with guardian(s) who are comfortable with a larger dog (like danes, he can be pretty clumsy with his tail and feet when he gets excited:-) and have lots of love to give him. If you have a big yard or space he could run around in, he would be even happier. He is a sweetheart!! If you are interested in getting to know Mr. Apollo Creed, I would be happy to set up a meet and greet.

He has a terrific personality to boot! No fooling. Cody is playful and very alert. He gets along with other dogs, cats and loves his people! He enjoys running and playing with the big dogs. Cody has proven himself to be very intellegent, learning new tricks daily. And he is crate trained! His foster mother says he is comical and has a great sense of humor. Oh, and he gives hugs! Vivi

Puppy like energy but well behaved!

Meet Vivi, whose name is short for vivacious and that describes her personality. Vivi has cute puppy like energy without the headaches that come with a puppy. Her ears are silky and her eyes express more than words ever could. Vivi looks much younger than her 6 years, strangers think she is a puppy. Housetrained, Vivi knows sit and stay and will even sit to be called to her food bowl. Her short term goals are learning to shake and finding a permanent home! Vivi likes a big walk in the morning to get her wiggles out and only wants to be near her human caregiver once she has walked, which she does nicely on a leash. Viv needs to be in a home with no other dogs or cats. Vivi is heartworm negative, up to date on her shots, weighs a tidy 33 lbs and has no health problems. Don't miss out on this great little dog!

Trek

Playful Pup Wants to Run with You!

Trek might have short legs, but he sure can run fast! You see, he was found by two cyclists when he started chasing after them out in the country. Worried that he might be hit by a car on that narrow country road, the cyclists stopped to look for his home but no one claimed him. Trek was adopted by one person but he wasn't much of an apartment dog so now he's back in his foster home and is looking for his forever family. Trek is a little more than a year old and weighs 25 pounds. He's fully house trained, sleeps through the night in a crate, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and neutered. Trek is on the energetic side so he would not be a good match for small children. He really likes hanging out in the backyard and enjoys playing with our other dogs. He quickly learned "sit" and "down" and he would make an excellent jogging partner. Trek needs some help getting socialized to dogs outside of his foster home and could use a few sessions with a dog trainer. An adoption application and adoption fee is required. Trek's foster family will waive the adoption fee with proof of private training lessons because we would like to see Trek make a great addition to his forever family.

Maverick

Sweet Maverick of Mine!

Maverick is 3 years old, heart worm negative, and on preventative treatment, he is approx 85 lbs., neutered, and has only had 1 owner since the day he was born. His mother was my brother-in-law's dog, my husband was there the minute Maverick was born. He was the first one born hence the name, he was the Maverick of the litter! His medical record is completely clean and all his shots are up to date.

He does jump fences so if he is going to be outside he would have to have a privacy fence. He very curious and loves to inspect any new addition to the house whether it be a bag of groceries or a new pair of shoes. He is a snuggle bug who refuses to lay on anything that is not squishy and warm, including piles of laundry.

His 2 favorite past times are playing with his Kong which has lasted for 2 years with no damage, which he will throw in the air for him self and bat it all over the house, and sleeping with his owners (he likes to sleep with his head on the pillow like a person).

His ears are the cutest thing ever, he cocks his head and pricks them up when you talk to him, he sits, lays down, and shakes. He is a wonderful dog but is not for anyone who is not home a lot, he has a lot of energy and needs to be played with, and not left alone all the time. He needs someone to love him as much as we do.

APBT mix, neutered male, 85lbs
