Mia

Love Bug!

Mia is looking for a warm lap to sit on! She is a wonderful girl who gets along well with other dogs and even cats. She is spayed, UTD on all vaccinations and is heartworm negative. She is very loving and wants to cuddle and get some time in on your lap or even in bed with you! She knows basic commands and is working on her lead, and works well for biscuits! She is a little skittish during thunderstorms. She needs a loving, caring family of her very own!

Seamus

Sweet Little Clown Needs a Happy Home

Seamus is a beautiful little 8-month old pit bull mix with stunning amber eyes, and is as sweet as they come. He had just one day left when we pulled him out of the shelter. He hardly ever barks, loves hanging around and playing with other dogs (can’t say the same about cats, though), just wants to cuddle up with you on the couch or take a walk and check out the neighborhood. He’s heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations and meds, microchipped, neutered, and is ready for an owner who wants a clowny little love bug. He’s only 39 pounds right now, but will grow a bit still. He is housebroken, but needs basic training (he responds immediately to corrections, treats and praise, so shouldn’t be hard to teach him how to be a well-behaved member of canine society). Love-A-Bull (www.love-a-bull.org) offers free training to members, so if you adopt this little guy, you can take a free 4-week course through this group. Small adoption fee applies. Please contact love-a-bull@hotmail.com if you would like to meet him!

Sparky and Houdini were abandoned in the country. They actually are still living on their empty lot but are being fed at this time. We will help facilitate their rescue into a loving, permanent home. These are nice dogs. Actually, quite handsome. It would be great to find them a place before the weather becomes bad.

Dublin

Dublin is a gorgeous 4-5 month old mixy puppy. She was reacued by a wonderful ABR volunteer that drove out to the country and saved them from iniment death. Dublin and her sister were abandoned out in the country when their owners moved. The other neighbors were unable to help them or even afford to feed them. When the ABR volunteer arrived she found 2 scared, starving little girls. They were quickly swooped up and taken to the vet where they were found to be underweight, but otherwise healthy. These girls have really started to come out of their shell. Dublin is more confident than her sister and and is quick to make new friends. She's been started on heartworm prevention and will be spayed soon. Both girls loves to play with other dogs, do well with cats as well as children. Any family would be lucky to have this little girl as a companion.

Mr. Apollo Creed

A Sweetheart of a Dog!

Mr. Apollo was rescued as a puppy. He was mistreated and malnourished in his first home so when he came to me, I gave him all my love and attention. Even though he had a rough start, he didn’t let it affect his temperament toward people. Apollo has a big personality. He LOVES swimming, playing, going on walks and just lazing around the house. He is a 7 - 8 year old mix...possibly dane / boxer mix or bull terrier. He weighs @ 70lbs. He tends to be pretty territorial in his home so I am looking for a new home where he will be an only child. I will be leaving the country for a 2 year period so will not be able to take him with me. I am hoping to find him a new home with guardian(s) who are comfortable with a larger dog (like danes, he can be pretty clumsy with his tail and feet when he gets excited:-) and have lots of love to give him. If you have a big yard or space he could run around in, he would be even happier. He is a sweetheart!! If you are interested in getting to know Mr. Apollo Creed, I would be happy to set up a meet and greet.

Bess

SBF Seeking BFF

Zodiac sign: Pisces (people person and excellent sympathizer). Animal translation is: A Lover; not a fighter.

Likes: Long walks, basic obedience class, playing ball or just hanging out and watching tv, staring into your soul with my smoldering, brown eyes trying to figure out what I can do to make you happy.

Dislikes: At this point in time, I am not comfortable with other dogs coming close to me, but I am getting much better; and with time, training, and patience I continue to get better.

Health: Heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, spayed.

History: I am about 2 years old. Found as a stray, taken to local animal shelter where I stayed for four months till a good Samaritan sprung me with the intent of finding me a new family. She and others are still helping me find that great new family and a BFF to call my own. Could that be you?

BFF Requirements: My new BFF needs to have these qualities/traits to be the best match for me: Knowledge about and love of Pit Bulls, Patient, understanding, and desire to see me do my best, Desire to exercise my mind & body with walks, teaching tricks, training, etc., Desire for an inside companion, not an outside guard dog, No other animals for now or willing to work with me on that issue. Darcee

When the ABR volunteer arrived she found 2 scared, starving little girls. They were quickly swooped up and taken to the vet where they were found to be underweight, but otherwise healthy. Sami

Three times a lady!

Sami - three times a lady Sami is hoping the third time will be her chance to be a welcome addition to your house. Her story began about a year ago as a young puppy. Somehow she managed to escape from the high kill shelter where she had been taken. A local family took her in and she thought she was sitting pretty. Well, the family broke up and Sami was once again homeless. This time around she did have a buddy who was also homeless. Kindly a man agreed to take her buddy as he was an older gentleman with heartworms. The man said Sami could come along too, but he couldn’t commit to a forever home for Sami also. So Sami is hanging out with the older dogs and man hoping this time she can find HER forever home. She is just about a year or so old and pretty much a petite girl, although hanging out with all the boys has caused her to add a few extra pounds to her young figure. Reportedly the family had children and she did wonderful with them, although that would be something we would definitely want to confirm if children are a part of your family. Sami loves attention, likes to ride in the car, and is a medium energy dog. She likes to think of herself as being able to keep up with the boys in their games, but would love to be able to play some more ladylike games such as ball and, of course, all that kissing and cuddling girls like so much. She does need to learn some manners and probably needs a refresher on her house training. With her love of attention and desire to please, she is bound to be a quick learner and remember all the rules she once used to know quite rapidly. Give Sami a home and give her a chance to be a lady, with some tomboy traits! If interested please contact Mary Jo at dogs1@keepitbetween.us Sami is about a year old, weighs about 45 lbs or so (a lady never tells her exact weight!) and current on all vaccinations and heartworm preventative. PS They spayed me too! Beagle mix? Maybe?

Ford

Ready for a Home of his Own!

Ford is a 1 ½ yr old male brindle boxer-mix. He was boarded at a vet clinic for about 7 months and became a little frustrated with that situation and so would like to find himself a permanent home. So far he has been very insecure around other dogs. His foster family is working with him to help regain his confidence so he can be placed in a home with other dogs. He has met a few older children and LOVES them. Because of his affectionate nature, children seem to tickle his boxer side, causing him to wiggle and wag as if he were full-blooded. He has not yet been tested with cats. Although he has so much fun just running around the yard, he would prefer to be close to an actual person - he adores humans. Because he lived at the vet for so long, he has an absolute clean bill of health. Plus, he's neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and crate trained. Although Ford knows how to walk well on a slip-lead, he definitely needs training. Anyone interested in adopting Ford will receive FREE obedience training. His training classes will be paid for out of pocket by the president of ABR. Overall, Ford is an AWESOME dog that will give back ten-fold what a family gives to him.

Trek

Playful Pup Wants to Run with You!

Trek might have short legs, but he sure can run fast! You see, he was found by two cyclists when he started chasing after them out in the country. Worried that he might be hit by a car on that narrow country road, the cyclists stopped to look for his home but no one claimed him. Trek was adopted by one person but he wasn't much of an apartment dog so now he's back in his foster home and is looking for his forever family. Trek is a little more than a year old and weighs 25 pounds. He's fully house trained, sleeps through the night in a crate, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and neutered. Trek is on the energetic side so he would not be a good match for small children. He really likes hanging out in the backyard and enjoys playing with our other dogs. He quickly learned "sit" and "down" and he would make an excellent jogging partner. Trek needs some help getting socialized to dogs outside of his foster home and could use a few sessions with a dog trainer. An adoption application and adoption fee is required. Trek's foster family will waive the adoption fee with proof of private training lessons because we would like to see Trek make a great addition to his forever family.

Lola

At 9 months old – Lola is just a little cutie. She is an English Bull Dog mix, so will stay fairly small. Lola is energetic, loves other dogs, loves kids, and would love to have a home and family of her own to hang out and play with. She is about 40lbs and will not grow much more, I don’t believe. You will fall in love with her when you meet her. She needs basic obedience class and manners on how to play nicely with other dogs. Lola also has some digestion issues, so cannot have food with grain in it. The food she is eating is no more expensive than any other high quality food. Lola is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. Her forever home will need to be close to or in Austin. If you are interested in meeting Lola, email rottiewatcher@yahoo.com for an adoption application.

Maverick

Sweet Maverick of Mine!

Maverick is 3 years old, heart worm negative, and on preventative treatment, he is approx 85 lbs., neutered, and has only had 1 owner since the day he was born. His mother was my brother-in-law's dog, my husband was there the minute Maverick was born. He was the first one born hence the name, he was the Maverick of the litter! His medical record is completely clean and all his shots are up to date.

He does jump fences so if he is going to be outside he would have to have a privacy fence. He very curious and loves to inspect any new addition to the house whether it be a bag of groceries or a new pair of shoes. He is a snuggle bug who refuses to lay on anything that is not squishy and warm, including piles of laundry.

His 2 favorite past times are playing with his Kong which has lasted for 2 years with no damage, which he will throw in the air for him self and bat it all over the house, and sleeping with his owners (he likes to sleep with his head on the pillow like a person).

His ears are the cutest thing ever, he cocks his head and pricks them up when you talk to him, he sits, lays down, and shakes. He is a wonderful dog but is not for anyone who is not home a lot, he has a lot of energy and needs to be played with, and not left alone all the time. He needs someone to love him as much as we do.

Vivi

Puppy like energy but well behaved!

Meet Vivi, whose name is short for vivacious and that describes her personality. Vivi has cute puppy like energy without the headaches that come with a puppy. Her ears are silky and her eyes express more than words ever could. Vivi looks much younger than her 6 years, strangers think she is a puppy. Housetrained, Vivi knows sit and stay and will even sit to be called to her food bowl. Her short term goals are learning to shake and finding a permanent home! Vivi likes a big walk in the morning to get her wiggles out and only wants to be near her human caregiver once she has walked, which she does nicely on a leash. Viv needs to be in a home with no other dogs or cats. Vivi is heartworm negative, up to date on her shots, weighs a tidy 33 lbs and has no health problems. Don't miss out on this great little dog!

Jake

Hi ya'll! My name is Jake and I'm 6 yr old ACD mix. I was dumped at a vet and a local rescue picked me up. There I found a family to adopt me, but there are little ones around now that I try to herd, so I need to be rehomed. I am neutered, crate trained, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and even got my thyroid tested, which came back all right. I have been through Basic Obedience at the Lee Manix Center for Caninie Behavior and can now sit, stay, lie down, come, shake, and even crawl! I have even started CGC training, and had hours of behavior modification but can't help but herd small children and small dogs (I'm ok with cats)! I like to go on long walks but I'm OK with lying around all day also. Please give me a good home without small children where I can thrive, I'm such a good dog! Tanner

He who runs with the wind

Tanner is a 2-year old, 60 lb, lab mix who was found as a stray living next to a creek bed. He is a happy guy who gets along well with other dogs. Tanner is active and would like to be with someone who enjoys walking, running or swimming. These are his favorite things (besides having something to carry around in his mouth). Tanner enjoys going to parks and off-leash areas where he can run and swim with other dogs. He does extremely well off leash and is a loyal and fun companion to have around. He is neutered, current on shots and has been treated for heartworms. For more info contact gfoster37@gmail.com

Charlie

Great spirit looking for love!

Charlie is a neutered male, tan and white, 70 lb. Border Collie/German Wirehaired Pointer mix and is approximately 4-5 years old. I found Charlie the week before Thanksgiving ’08 running down the middle of the road. He was wearing a faded collar with no tags or i.d.. You could see every rib in his body and his hip bones jutted out. He was in bad shape. The Animal Control Officer came out and scanned Charlie for a microchip, but to no avail. He was then taken the San Marcos Animal Shelter to see if anyone came looking for him. Almost 3 weeks went by with nobody coming to claim him (I also posted him on Craig’s list lost pets). I could not get his sweet beautiful brown eyes out of my mind and I knew that I had to get him out of the shelter. With the help of a nice lady who runs an animal rescue group, we were able to get Charlie out of the shelter so that I could take him home as a foster dog and give him the second chance at a life that he deserves. When he came out of the shelter in early Dec., He weighed 47 lbs., was very scared and completely covered in fleas. He had ear mites, and his hair was scratchy and horrible. To put it nicely, he was a mess! He also tested low positive for heartworms – no surprise! In the 8 weeks that he has been with our family he has thrived! He now weighs 70 lbs., had no fleas or mites and all of his blood work is back normal. He has been microchipped and is being treated for heartworms with Heartguard. The vet hopes that he will be heartworm free in 6 months and if not he will need to have the injectable heartworm treatment to completely kill off any remaining parasites. He has a great spirit and loves to play outside with my 2 year old German Shepherd. He is housebroken and crate trained, knows the sit command and loves to play ball with my kids. Although he seems perfectly healthy and energetic, his activity level will need to be closely monitored until he is completely heartworm free. We are also working with him on further obedience training and this will need to be continued in his new home as he has some anxiety issues with other dogs at times. I don’t know his history since I found him, but it is obvious he did not have a great life up until now. With a bit of work and continued socialization he will make a great pet! He just really needs someone who can give him love, attention and a bit of time to work with him. I will be very sad to see him go, but because I have 2 other dogs, 2 cats and 2 young children, I feel that I do not have the time to devote to Charlie that he really deserves. Charlie is ready to find his “Forever Home”. Because of his background, he will be best going to a person who is experienced with dogs, and probably to a home with no other dogs at this time. With some work and behavior modification, another dog could probably be brought into his life down the road. In lieu of an adoption fee, I would ask that you purchase some training sessions with a wonderful animal behaviorist in the area that I have worked with and who will come to your home to work with Charlie – I truly believe he will be worth it all! He has been through so much and it will be great to see him have a happy ending! Thank you for your interest in Charlie and I look forward to hearing from you! Please contact me at tara7tilton@yahoo.com.

Rover

Coon Pups Looking for Forever Home!

Rover is a black/tan coonhound mix. He is about 1 year old (as of December 2008) and weigh between 45lbs. He was left at the Gonzales Shelter about 4 months ago, and since then, he has been looking for his own forever home. He is heartworm negative, has been neutered, and have all current vaccinations(2DHPPs, Bordetella and Rabies shot). He is very friendly and loves to get attention from anybody. He gets along well with other dogs. But would probably do best as an only dog or with a female, as he is a little nervous around other males. Rover was the baby-brother of the litter, more quiet and gentle than his siblings. He is a typical hound and young...meaning he has a lot of energy! He needs a loving home and just wants to be part of your family. A secured fenced yard will be a big must. They would be an ideal companion for anybody who loves being active.

Scruffy and Muffy

We are TWO Awesome Dogs!

Scruffy and Muffy We think our names are Scruffy & Muffy! We are Lab/Golden Retrievers. We don't know our names because our owners never spoke to us. We lived on 5' chains in a fenced yard for over 4 long years along with 2 Blue Heelers which are still there. We could not play with each other but could see each other from all corners of the fenced yard. The highlight of our day was when our master came out with a bag of food & threw it on the ground then went back inside. Why didn't he ever speak or even just pet us once? We did get fresh water every weekend. Our masters never gave us any shots, never went for a walk or even played in the fenced yard, we only knew our 5' chained area. We are finally free, thanks to the Humane Society, to run & play with each other for the first time ever. We are very loving, good natured & very smart! The Humane Society has had us spayed but found out we have heart worms which we will be treated for soon. Our foster mother is training us to sit, come, potty train, etc. We would love to see what being a man's best friend is like and live in a home as a family. Thanks for your help. Scruffy & Muffy

Joaquin

Black is Beautiful

This beautiful black dog showed up at my doorstep (literally) with a chain and a padlock around his neck. He clearly had broken the chains that bound him like a criminal and after I had to take him to a locksmith to remove the chain and padlock, there was no doubt in my mind that this friend wasn't going back “home.”

He is guessed to be 1-2 years old and has been neutered and vaccinated, gets along with other dogs (I have five of my own). He has been with me now for about a month, and I feel he would prefer a smaller household. Please adopt this special guy and give him the loving home he deserves.
